Guest Post: Ashley from Two Eyes In The Mirror – ‘Filmspiration: Dirty Dancing’

Please enjoy another guest post from another lovely lady today, Ashley from Two Eyes In The Mirror, another member of the Lovely Ones.

For me, every spring has its own movie. Spring 2008? It was Bonnie & Clyde. Last spring? The Grapes of Wrath. I end up drawing a lot of fashion inspiration from these movies. A movie I become obsessed with every spring, perhaps because it defines easy-going springtime style? Dirty Dancing.

Dirty Dancing offers just about everything you could want in a movie. Good looking dude? Check. Unwanted pregnancy? Check. And hey–there’s dancing, too! Made in the late 1980s but set in the 60s, it offers a unique approach to fashion. Crop tops, denim, and white Keds galore, I always get a bunch of new outfit ideas in mind after watching this film.

The All-American, Dirty Dancing look is extremely easy to pull off. Pair basic pieces with basic pieces. Throw on minimal accessories and some comfy shoes. Brush your hair a few times and you’re ready to walk out the door in style.

What do you think of this simple look for spring and summer? Do you find this movie as inspiring as I do?

Great post. I love fashion that draws inspiration from other cultural forms, like the cinema. And this film is a perfect choice. Nice idea, Ashley!
