I’m not sure how many of you are aware of the brand Curvy Kate, a D-K cup lingerie brand, but I think I really should introduce you to them, particularly those larger busted followers!! I mentioned on Twitter, but I had a bit of a useless experience of a bra fitting at Debenhams recently: when I’ve been fitted in the past, I’ve been measured with a tape measure and had several different sizes brought to me to try. Apparently it’s done differently now, without a tape measure, which is fine, but when I was in Debenhams, the girl literally put her head round the corner, guessed a size, told me to try it on (which was the granniest bra I’ve ever seen) and said it fitted fine, despite only looking at it through the curtain and it gaping on the cup. I felt like she was uncomfortable with doing the fitting, she was unwilling to really look at me or feel how it fitted.
So anyway, I was in contact with Curvy Kate and told them about my experience, they then offered to send me one of their beautiful sets from their Spring Summer 2012 collection. There are so many lovely things, but I decided on the Princess Hot Pink set in the end, choosing the size that Debenhams had suggested to me: 30F and size 8 briefs. I was previously wearing anything between a 30DD and 36C, with almost every C, D and DD cup for every band size in between because, like normal dress sizes, they seem to change from shop to shop, plus most don’t go above a D or below a 34. I knew that I was definitely wearing a band size too big nearly all of the time, but it’s so difficult to find anything below a 34, apart from the occasional 32s. I think that a lot of women don’t realise that they’re wearing a too big band size – whenever women are fitted properly, they seem to go down a band size or two (or three!), and if everyone was wearing the correct one, there would be a lot more 28s, 30s and 32s out there, making them far more available!
Anyway, this set! The first thing I noticed when I opened it was the amazing colour – apparently this is Curvy Kate’s signature colour, and it really is amazing! When choosing a bra for a larger bust, it’s so difficult to find ones that are young and fun – I don’t want to be wearing old woman underwear under my clothes!! But this colour, and fun polka dot print with ribbons here and there was perfect.
I have never really worn unpadded bras before, except for those American Apparel crop top things that I wear when my costochondritis is particularly bad, so I was interested to see how I liked this one, and it turned out I really do like it!! The cups fit absolutely perfectly with full coverage and it feels really nice to wear. I think the band might be sliiiightly too big, perhaps I should be going for a 28FF (down a band size = up a cup size and vice versa), but that’s nothing to do with the set itself, just me!!
Overall, I’m so pleased to have found a company that caters for people like me – I’m not exactly massive in the bust area, but I’m bigger than average for figure, but still slim on my waist. And of course, I love that they do young and pretty underwear in a range of colours and styles. I’m definitely thinking about the next one I’ll be getting from there, and I’m really excited for their modelling competition next year since for the past two years I’ve managed to miss the entry, but next year I will not miss it!!
EDIT: After writing and scheduling this post, I feel so much in love with my Curvy Kate underwear that I just had to buy some more – luckily Debenhams has a massive sale on at the moment and I managed to get the Lottie (name of my dog too haha!) for £8.70 in a 28FF, and it fits perfectly!

ooh very pretty! I guess I’m lucky to be ‘regular sized’ so I can easily find bras at H&M and other high street stores. But some of my friends always have trouble finding pretty bras for bigger sizes so I’ll show them this shop immediately! xx
What a great review – delighted you have found and love Curvy Kate – we think its fab too! We have the black version of this pretty set – the material is so silky and gorgeous!!
Hi Sian, we recently launched a new online lingerie boutique at Be Uplifted – check it out and let us know what you think!
