Oh how much you are going to hate me with all these travel posts again – I’m just becoming such a random blogger right now, but there you go! I never promised that I was going to be a proper fashion blogger, just keeping you all up to date with my life here! Although we’re hardly up to date considering these photos are from well over a month ago, oops =p
So above are photos from the first stop of our holiday. As some of you know, I went away with my family to Canada and America in August/September, and we stayed in a camper (RV). It’s not the first time we’ve done this: we did Canada (BC and Alberta) in 2004; Blue Ridge Mountains and the East Coast in 2007; Yellowstone, Utah and Colorado in 2009; and this time, Canada (BC, Vancouver Island) and the West coast (Washington and Oregon). It’s something we really love doing as a family and is so much fun – it includes a lot of campfires, bbqs, some rather interesting showers, mountains, viewpoints, lots of getting lost and very touristy stops.
Above we had just landed after a 9 hour flight into Vancouver and were waiting for our room for our first night’s stop at the River Rock Hotel and Casino in Vancouver to become available so we could go swimming! Weirdly, this was pretty much the only day I managed to get a tan – it was a lot cooler than we expected! And the tan was only on my feet…criss cross sandal tan, oh no!

And above is our first day in the camper! We literally got the RV as early as we could, drove to the ferry port, unpacked in the queue for the ferry, then sailed over to Vancouver Island. We had a long drive from the ferry port at Nanaimo to Tofino, and we knew we needed to stop to do some food shopping, so while it was a nice relaxing ride on the boat, it was quite stressful once we got off! The drive was made a lot longer when a car ahead of us caught on fire and we ended up being stuck somewhere a lot closer to Nanaimo than Tofino for a good few hours. At least we had food and a bathroom though, unlike the poor people just stuck in cars! But we were exhausted, remember the 8 hour time difference and the fact we’d only arrived a day before!
We reached our first campsite in Tofino at just before 11pm, at which time the site closed, so we were lucky to make it in! We were due to meet friends there that evening (friends from the UK who happened to be there at the same time as us!), but we arranged to see them the next day instead =D
We awoke the next morning to a surprise – having arrived late at night in the dark we had no idea of what it looked like and what the weather was like…! It was so beautiful but so cold! Colder than we had left behind at home!! We were sort of expecting it for Tofino though, so it wasn’t too bad! We walked down to a very grey beach next to the campsite where we met our friends. Despite being grey and chilly, it was a really beautiful place. There were people who had camped in just sleeping bags on the beach overnight, so crazy, but it must be such a nice sight to wake up to.
Later that day we grabbed lunch in a small bakery (see the signs above), it was colourful and fun =) Then we went on another boat trip…guess from the picture above what kind! But more pictures of that to come!
I will try to get these posts over and done quickly, so sorry if they’re not what you come to my blog for, but hopefully there’ll be a few things of interest in there =D
Coming up next time: an exciting boat trip, amazing wildlife and woodland, and some giant banana slugs…
Love,
Ooh I’m jealous, it looks lovely! I really want to go to America/Canada one day, looking forward to your next post 😀
