Lifestyle | Organising Your Wardrobe and Making it More Accessible

There are many people who tend to simply hang their clothes up in the wardrobe without any sort of organisation or methodology involved – it probably won’t surprise you to know that I’m one of them – and while this may seem convenient at the time, it can actually cause a lot of time wastage and frustration in the long run. The clothes that you actually want to get to can vary based on factors such as your own personal preferences, the clothes that you tend to wear most often, and the season. With this in mind it is important to try and organise your wardrobe properly and make it more easily accessible.

By taking a little time out to get your wardrobe organised, you can save yourself a lot of hassle and you will be able to ensure that you are not constantly rummaging around to try and find the things that you want to wear.

Tips that can help you with wardrobe organisation

One of the things you should take into consideration is what you tend to wear most often. You should make sure that the clothes you most often wear are towards the front of the wardrobe or rather than being crammed behind loads of clothes that you only wear on occasion, as this means that you won’t have to tie yourself up in knots trying to get past your occasional wear in order to get to them.

Another thing you need to take into account is the season, as you won’t be wearing jumpers and thick coats in summer or sleeveless tops and dresses in winter. Storing out of season clothes away is a great way to make more space in your wardrobe for clothes that are suitable for the current season and when the seasons change you can simply switch the clothes that are in your wardrobe. There are plenty of storage solutions you can choose from, such as a divan base with drawers like those from Bedstar. You can then benefit from storage for your clothes without taking up additional space in your bedroom or your wardrobe.

A surprising number of us tend to hoard clothes that we never actually wear at all simply because we can’t bear the idea of letting them go. However, if you are not going to wear them then there is little point taking up valuable wardrobe space. It is therefore a good idea to go through everything in your wardrobe and get rid of the items that you no longer want. You can give them to charity and do your bit for a good cause or even sell them online via sites such as Gumtree, where you could make some money and treat yourself to new outfits that you will wear. We’re lucky in that we get those bags put through our letterbox that you can fill and will be picked up to go to charity – it makes it so much easier! Unfortunately we seem to get at least 3 of these a week at the moment, and I just don’t have that much stuff to get rid of!

One tip I’ve read time and time again but never tried out (yet!) is that when you wear an item of clothing, you should rehang it in the wardrobe with the hanger facing the opposite direction. After a while you’ll notice that certain pieces have been left facing the original way for a long, long time and you should take the hint – those are the ones that you never wear and need to get rid of!
