Disney Eras Tag: The Golden Era (Part 1)

Disney's Golden Era TagThis is an awesome tag started by Scariel’s Grotto that I decided I just had to complete – even if it is a long one that takes up several posts. It passes through all the eras of Disney (read about these here if you’re unfamiliar) from the Golden Age beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and ending with right now, the Revival Era starting in 2010.
Today’s post is all about the Golden Age – the era home to the following films:

And here we go with the questions! I’ve seen The Neverland Mermaid has also completed these too, so take a look at her post too and some others here 🙂

1. Any unseen films?

Nope, I’ve seen all of these ones 🙂 Fantasia I didn’t properly watch until I was older, but the other 4 were staples of my childhood.

2. What is your favourite film of the era?

Thumper Bambi gif

As always, a tough question! All 4 apart from Fantasia are about on the same level of childhood love for me, but I think Bambi just wins it. It’s one I still quote from now, despite there being very few quotes! It’s just the “BIRD!” and “That’s why they call me THUMPER, Thumper, Thumper!” that do it. In fact, I’m wearing Bambi pyjamas right now 😀

3. What is your least favourite film of the era?

Fantasia, but only because it doesn’t hold the same nostalgia. It’s still a beautiful piece of animation and film that I really enjoy.

4. Who is your favourite main character?

Conflicting opinions based on my answer above here, but #sorrynotsorry, it’s got to be Mickey in Fantasia. Classic!

5. Who is your favourite villain?

The Evil Queen as the witch in Snow White – she terrified me SO much when I was younger, as did the Mirror too for some reason. We used to watch Snow White at my grandparents’ house quite often when I was little, so it always reminds me of them!

6. Who is your favourite sidekick?

I have to have two: Jiminy Cricket (because he’s awesome) and Thumper because he’s so cute.

7. What’s your favourite song of the era?

Little April Shower ðŸ™‚

But I also have to add When You Wish Upon A Star from Pinocchio because it’s just so iconic is still the single song that can sum up what Disney magic means:

But then you’ve also got Pink Elephants on Parade which is both crazy and terrifying while still being awesome as well as the gorgeous Baby Mine

8.  What do you consider to be the most underrated film of the era?

Fantasia, I think. Many of us haven’t seen it, and I was guilty of this, and it’s only my least favourite from this era because the others are just SO good and nostalgic.

9. What is your favourite thing about this era?

It’s got some of the true classics of Walt Disney magic as these films were all overseen by the man himself. They all mix some terrifying scenes with lighthearted and “fluffy” ones. You also get the  true innovation in these films: the first example of a Disney “fairytale” story in Snow White and a film seen through the imaginative eyes of animals. These were pioneering films and while, luckily, Snow White was a massive success, Fantasia at the time wasn’t and Walt was trying to recoup losses when making Dumbo a feature length film – just shows that even the best of us struggle at times.

10. What is your least favourite thing about this era?

Despite the dark scenes being awesome, they always scared me when I was little, so they’re probably my least favourite thing!
