Awkward/Awesome Revisited

Once upon a time, there used to be a thing in blogging called “Awkward and Awesome” – it used to be hosted at The Daybook blog but is no longer running. I resurrected it on my blog in 2013 and just stumbled across that post today and decided to revisit it once again as, if I do say so myself, that post was brilliant!
So I thought it would be fun to do another post in this style today along with my outfit seeing as the outfit isn’t a massively inspiring one – just an outfit I wore to work. I’m wearing jeans a lot of the time at the moment because of the dreary weather (snow is expected tomorrow!), and that gives me the opportunity to wear these ankle boots* from Dorothy Perkins at House of Fraser. I got them as a replacement for my old ankle boots which are starting to look quite worn now (they’re in most posts from our road trip if you want to see them). These have a bit more of a heel and are higher at the ankle, suede, and slightly more “fitted” around the foot, but are really comfortable. They’ve definitely made a good replacement and are now my daily go-to shoes.
The rest of the outfit is very standard for this time of year with a grey fitted top (that you’ve seen before here) and my giant blanket scarf that never leaves my neck at this time of year – I feel it needs a category all of its own on the blog! I’m turning more and more to knitted tops and jumpers at this time of year and really need to stock up on some.
But on with the awkward/awesome!

Awkward

  • Not so much awkward as hilarious, but I nearly caused my cousin Mollie (remember when she was born? She’s now nearly 6!) to run away from home! I was looking after her and her sister Eva (3) on Saturday and told Mollie off for arguing with Eva. She stormed off to her bedroom then came banging out 10 minutes later with a suitcase in tow packed with only shoes! (Sandals and wellies are very necessary for November weather!) She then attempted to tie the suitcase to her bike and sat in the driveway sulking because no one would drive her. Mean to laugh at her?! Maybe, but it was funny!

Running away

  • Boasting about how you haven’t caught the office cold then coming down with said cold that very evening #playingwithfire.
  • Getting a new tumble dryer (I feel this is actual an awesome), then accidentally rewashing your clean laundry in the excitement of trying it out.

Awesome

  • We had a positivity workshop at work as a follow on from our previous one in August, and it was, as the post goes, awesome! Look out for more about that soon, but let me leave you with the fact that we got to witness a daytime TV show, an awards ceremony, a chat over pints and a new office induction, including sunglasses and a “Hattitude”.
  • Private yoga classes – Laura and I have started doing yoga in private classes with a teacher in Ripon every other week and it’s going really well so far. The plan is for us to be able to learn from her and ask questions, then put what we learn into practice during the 2 weeks between classes. In this week’s classes we did Pigeon, Eagle and an arm balancing pose I’ve completely forgotten the name of (not Crow, we did that the session before).
  • Bonfire and fireworks at my uncle’s house for Bonfire Night.
  • New ankle boots that have become a daily staple!

Now it’s your turn! Tell me your awkward/awesome moments from the past week, or post them on your own blog – I’d love to read!

Super post but made me think about mine….. Awesome, great parents evening, I have learnt to make a crochet granny square (not sure why though) and a night away. Awkward being told by a 3 year old that he lets his mum do the cooking/washing (awkward or funny), eating far too much when having a meal out and struggling to walk back, I never eat that much at home but but sit me in a restaurant/pub and I will eat as much as I possibly can!
