After my to-ing and fro-ing and just general indecisiveness about which Christmas party dress I was going to wear for Bronco’s 2016 Christmas party, I’m sure you’re all dying to know which one I chose, right? Or maybe not – I’m sure you’re not all sat on the edges of your seats just waiting to hear what Sian wore! Nevertheless, you’re now here so you’re going to find out that…drum roll please…I wore neither of the ones I’d planned! Of course, being my usual self, I changed my mind at last minute and wore:
Well, in fact it wasn’t quite last minute. I went shopping with my sister the weekend before the Christmas party to get the last few Christmas gifts and to have a wander around a few clothes shops. I’d tried on a few things in Primark (all of which I strongly disliked by the way, especially the sequin dress that left me injured – those sequins were sharp!), then we decided to make a quick call in Outfit so Beth could check out some jeans there when I spotted . Actually, Beth spotted this dress – you all think I’m fashion brains behind this blog, but where would I be without her advice and criticisms? She’ll be laughing now (or would be, if she actually read the blog – she confessed the other day that she doesn’t!) because she would never say she was fashionable, but she’s the single person I can rely on to give me truly honest feedback on things I wear and try on. I mean, other people could do, but I might be offended by their comments – somehow, she never manages to offend me!
Anyway, I tried on the dress (plus another 20s style Gatsby inspired one which was awesome but sat in a really odd place on my bust) and loved the shape of it and how festive it felt with the jacquard gold design. Beth actually commented that it did “squish” me across the bust a bit, but that wasn’t of that much concern to me since most dresses do! I messaged Ben a picture and asked him to find the dress online for me and to check if there were any discounts, and we managed to find it with 15% off, so my decision was made. I ordered it as soon as I got home!
I’d also bought a few weeks ago as I’d been wanting a strappy pair for a while and this shade of copper/gold goes with a lot of things that I own – they would have even matched either of my other dress options! They’re very “on trend” at the moment, which I don’t tend to go for a lot, but I liked how “grown up” looked. I was worried they wouldn’t be comfortable due to having no enclosed toe and having a very flat bottom and stiletto heel as opposed to a platform and thicker heel, but they weren’t too bad. I have very narrow feet so they did slide through quite a bit, but I lasted wearing them from about 7.30 till 12.30am, when I took them off to sit down for a bit before going to bed.
This was my Christmas party make up – I’ve recently moved away from my 50s vintage inspired make up look with dark cat eye lined lids and red lips to a more modern style. I’ve been experimenting with various different eyeshadows and a more nude lip, plus attempting contouring too, and I’m feeling good about it! I’ll post more about this at some point going into more detail about the different products I’ve been using and loving recently.
I’m glad I decided against the green maxi dress in the end – even though it looked and felt completely awesome, it would have been way over the top. It was one of those parties where several companies of a similar size to ours can book in, and most people at the party were wearing similar styles to this in length and formality, and quite a few were even less dressed up – there were a few black trouser and nice top looks, and I even spotted a tiny fitted crop top and low waist blue jeans outfit which surprised me!
We had a really lovely night, one of the best Bronco Christmas parties yet I think – probably mostly because I feel I’ve come a long way this year in terms of getting to know everyone in the team a lot better so felt a lot more comfortable spending time around them. The food was really quite good this year too which was nice. Plus, we took this is our opportunity to announce our recent news to everyone so there was a lot of excitement, and even some crazy marriage advice from my bosses! I’m looking forward to next year’s already 😀
PS: Apologies for the bad quality photos of the outfit – taken in low light on my phone camera, but they’re better than none!
