2016 was an awesome year for Disney movies – we saw the release of Zootopia (or Zootropolis depending on where you are!), Finding Dory, Moana and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to name but a few. And it looks like 2017 onwards is set to be just as brilliant! I love this recent infographic created by Mr Gamez which details the Disney Universe in a super pretty timeline (is it just me that loves data like this?!).
Here are a few of the 2017 Disney releases I’m looking forward to most in 2017:
Beauty and the Beast
This live action retelling of the classic Disney tale of Beauty and the Beast, with Emma Watson playing Belle, Ewan McGregor starring as Lumiere and Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts among others, looks set to be the movie release of 2017 so far, let alone Disney. The trailers have had people enthralled for weeks already and even the rumoured first clip of Emma Watson singing as Belle reached scandalous heights as a news headline! Keep your eyes out for it in cinemas from March 17th.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The sequel to the ever popular superhero film of 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 will be released on May 5th.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
On May 26th, Johnny Depp will grace our screens once again as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Whether it’s just flogging a dead horse as many are saying or whether it’s pure brilliance (the ride and other films wouldn’t be so popular for no reason!), we’ll have to wait and see.
Cars 3
Ben’s 5 year old cousin William is way too excited about this, but it’s not just little boys the world over who are excited, as Cars is now a staple Disney Pixar franchise for any Disney lover. To be released on the 16th June.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
This upcoming 2017 Disney film release is in collaboration with Marvel Studios again, another sequel to the ever popular Spider-Man franchise and universe.
Thor: Ragnarok
Superheroes must be in again if 3 of Disney’s movies this year are centred around them! Based on Marvel Comic’s Thor, this film is the third instalment in the film series.
Coco
Our next Disney/Pixar instalment is to be Coco on November 22nd (my sister’s birthday!), focused on a story around the festival of the Day of the Dead.
Star Wars: Episode VII
Sequels are obviously a big deal to the Disney corporation this year! This live action instalment of the infamous franchise is eagerly awaited will be launched on December 15th.
