A good basic winter outfit is a must when you live in the UK and suffer through the trials of British weather everyday, and to be honest, I’m not so great at warm basics. I’m slowly getting there and have been gathering a collection of knitwear over the past couple of years to see me through the winters better than my usual attire of layering multiple pieces of summer wear! I’ve definitely veered away from cardigans recently and more towards jumpers, in particular roll necks, although I imagine I’ll turn back to them for easy to throw on cover ups in summer!
When SimplyBe got in touch to offer me a couple of pieces from their winter collection, in particular the knitwear selection, I wasn’t going to say no! I don’t often browse SimplyBe as it’s not a store that was aimed at me previously, but I noticed that they had a selection of size 10 items that were gorgeous, so I took them up on the offer.
I picked out the khaki jumper first – it looked so warm and cosy that I couldn’t not get it! Plus I also like wearing khaki, despite it not being one you see me wearing often. Ben told me once upon a time, about 8 years ago that khaki looked good on me, so I’m taking that as meaning that he likes it, so every so often he gets his way and I buy khaki coloured clothing!
I also picked out a coat, mostly because I’m still wearing my old George at Asda mustard duffle coat as my everyday one and I really needed to replace it. My first choice sold out too quickly unfortunately (oh no!), but luckily I spotted this grey number that fitted in exactly with my new style “identity” of casual but on the slightly smarter side, a little bit trendy, but quite basic. I also like the fact that this coat could be worn on holiday too as it’s lightweight and unlined – it’s almost “coatigan” in that way actually! It’s really easy to throw on over all my winter outfits at the moment though and I’ve been complimented on it several times already, so that’s a big positive!
And of course, I did what everybody does and wore both items together as soon as I got them! I can confirm that the jumper is as warm and cosy as it looks, plus it’s a lovely soft wool which is awesome as so many can be scratchy. It was slightly longer than I expected, almost in dress territory, but the slits at the side mean it can’t actually be worn as a dress. It would definitely work well for a lazy day with leggings underneath, but with skinny jeans and knee high boots, it makes a good work outfit during winter for me.
