So many of us love clothes and fashion, but would never in a million years dream of being able to turn our passion for clothes into a career. We are not all major designers or supermodels in the making. However, there are many jobs in which you can use your love of fashion, style, and design and earn a living in a field you love. This article will highlight some of the possible career paths for people who love fashion.

If you are more of a creative person who is interested in fashion, you definitely might consider this high profile career path. Fashion designers are what the fashion industry is built on, and a lot of people go into this difficult field. You do need a lot of talent, knowledge of the industry, and a lot of the time- pure luck to succeed in this business. However, it is still definitely a possible career path. There are many options for someone hoping to take on this role, from freelancing to working in small boutiques to starting your own line. Develop your specialty, be sure to be true to your own aesthetic and work hard on building your own brand.

Retail Buyer

So, you love fashion, but you don’t really have the ability to stitch together garments yourself. However, you absolutely love shopping. Becoming a retail buyer is definitely for those who have this ability. They have to know which products or garments need to be stocked as well as trend predicting and keeping on top of the latest fashion news.

If you already know all there is to know, and have your finger on the pulse of all the latest style news- this role might just be the one for you! If not, many schools are offering fashion merchandising degrees that can give you an edge in the industry.

Have you ever walked down the street and looked at someone walking by and thought of at least three things that would really pull their look together? Well, personal stylists live for this. They are the people who work either in retail environments or on a personal level. They have to have a high knowledge and passion for giving styling tips to clients as well as excellent communication skills. This job also takes the skill of being able to follow your client’s instructions and needs, and choosing the best pieces for them to not only look good but feel good- often in this role your ego has to be left at the door.

If you are able to communicate well through graphics, the fashion industry has a lot of use for you. Most work is two-dimensional and is intended to produce visual solutions to communicate messages for their clients. This is great for someone in the graphic design industry who wants to aim towards getting into fashion. Not all roles are specific to one field of work- it is up to you to use the skills you have to find yourself a place in the industry you’re keen to get into.

Of course, not all of us can go through this route with our love of fashion, however, with those of us blessed with good genetics, becoming a model might be a totally viable option.  There are a lot of different ways that a model can start, and you can even get going locally. Why not just give it a try? Even if you don’t fit into the stereotypical ‘model’ figure, remember that in this day and age with social media brands are reaching out to people to become brand ambassadors so long as they have style, and the attitude they are looking for to sell their brand.

Fashion can be an extremely artistic medium, there are so many things that you can write about when you are a fashion writer. Fashion writers work for PRs and produce editorial copy for the extensive fashion media industry. You can work as a blogger, magazine writer, and Newspaper writer. The possibilities are endless.

If you are hard working, creative, and keen to begin a new career why not pursue something in a field you are passionate about.  Once you have decided the type of role you are interested in you can see if there are any suitable job offers nearby by using a jobsite to search for vacancies.
