Alright, so it’s a little bit too chilly to be wearing this outfit right now – mostly because I took these pics a couple of weeks ago and promptly forgot to share them! When the weather was still just about warm enough to be wearing floaty skirts and tops, I took the opportunity to get this little matching set from Tobi* out in the late evening sunshine.
As I keep saying, I’m pretty happy about the fact that autumn is now descending. I find it a bit odd that my style has changed so much that I much prefer to wear jumpers and boots when they were the things I hated pulling out of my wardrobe previously. I wonder if it’s tied into the fact that the end of summer meant back to school, long days and early mornings. I loved school, but I am not a morning person, so getting up when it’s cold and dark was my idea of hell as a child and teenager. In my head, I imagine I’d tied this in with the clothes we have to wear in colder weather, whereas now, I can fully enjoy the fact that I’m fully enclosed in a snuggly jumper and sturdy boots.
Nevertheless, these photos are already making me nostalgic for summer. The golden light in the evenings where you didn’t have to pile up in jumpers if you didn’t want to and being able to spend evenings doing something other than sitting inside. Not that I did all that much outside over summer on the evenings apart from BBQs, but it’s the option of being able to!
Matching set outfits are a funny thing. Sometimes I love them because they make life easy – no need to figure out what to wear with a skirt when it’s already got a matching top! But they do somewhat limit creativity. Fortunately, I’ve realised that both these pieces go excellently with other items – the wrapped crop top has already been worn out with a pair of high waisted jeans, and the skirt would work with a long sleeved top over autumn. The colours at least will allow me to continue to wear it throughout the colder months.
I did worry that the print of the set might make it a little bit too over the top when paired together. Luckily I don’t think that was the case – when worn together, they seem to look more like a maxi dress with cut outs, which is awesome. I felt very floaty and swishy in this outfit, especially thanks to the split skirt detail. I’m looking forward to pulling it out for holiday wear next year!
