Rihanna first entered the scene in 2005 with Pon de Replay; back then she was an unassuming singer from Barbados. Since then, she has become one of the world’s richest female musicians and won countless award for her music. She has released 8 studio albums, but the rise of Rihanna has now evolved past that achievement too.
Moving on slightly from music, Rihanna has now built a lifestyle brand and empire around her own last name, Fenty. While fans are hounding her for new music, she is making huge waves in the beauty and fashion industries. So, just how has he achieved this over the years?
Collaborations and projects
Artists are no strangers to things like brand collaborations and bringing out their own line of products to help boost their image; Rihanna perfumehas sold incredibly well over the years, with the first fragrance Reb’l Fleur being released in 2011. Rihanna has been the face of Vita Coco, appeared in an advert for Kodak and released her own collection with MAC Cosmetic over the years.
Putting herself in the spotlight even more, Rihanna is a true example of not being put into a box. From the beginning of her career, she has experimented with other arts and so it’s no shock that she now has a successful fashion line in the works.
She’s even acted; appearing in films, TV series and filming projects with other artists like Donald Glover.
The Fenty empire
As far back as 2011, Rihanna has been involved in the fashion industry. In that year, she announced a venture with Armani, and from 2013 she released numerous women’s collections for River Island. Two years later, she was announced as the first black woman to be the fact of Dior.
By 2014, Rihanna had been awarded the CFDA Fashion Icon lifetime achievement award. Shortly after, she became the creative director at Puma, going on to release various successful footwear collections.
The years following saw Rihanna embark on a completely new adventure, building the Fenty empire you know today. In just 3 years, Rihanna has gone from successful singer to fashion icon and entrepreneur, beginning with her Fenty Beauty line in 2017. It shot to success because of the huge amount of shades available for all skin types, something no other brand had achieved so accurately before.
The year after, Rihanna launched Savage x Fenty, a lingerie brand that was created with confidence and inclusivity in mind. The brand creates a huge range of styles for every size and shape, with a new collection having been released in August 2019.
As of 2019, Rihanna has launched a luxury Fenty fashion line under LVMH, the conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Christian Dior and Givenchy.
So, if you’re wondering what Rihanna has been doing all this time while not releasing any music, it’s safe to say she’s not been slacking!
