Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe

A melt in the mouth, buttery vanilla cookie with a crisp exterior coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar. This crowd pleasing recipe is a typically US Christmas tradition that I'm bringing to the UK!

  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup vegetable shortening Trex, Flora White, Cookeen in the UK
  • 1.5 cups caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2.75 cups plain flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon


  • Preheat your oven to 200C (180C fan)
  • Cream together the softened butter, vegetable shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract until white.
  • Stir in the flour, baking powder and salt. Be careful not to overmix your flour.
  • Shape the dough into spheres, approximately 1 tbsp per cookie.
  • Mix the remaining 2 tbsp of sugar with the cinnamon, then roll each ball of dough int his until they're evenly coated. Place each ball well spaced on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, then remove immediately from baking sheets and place onto cooling rack. Enjoy!
