First Autumn Outfit

Yellow Jumper, denim skirt

So I’m back from my UK road trip! Actually, I got back a few days ago and I’ve been hoarding this outfit post since before I went away, but let’s pretend that we don’t know that. More on the road trip another day though – I left my Mac in my friend’s Peak District holiday cottage so ideally I want that back to get my photos on!
I’ve talked loads (and loads and loads…) recently about how I hadn’t been feeling my wardrobe any more and how I was excited for autumn to be able to get back into my stride again – and finally, I think that’s happened! I’ve dug out a couple of pairs of boots from last year, bought a few new staple pieces (, new jeans etc.) and a few accessories to bring things up to season, and I’m feeling a lot more content at the state of my wardrobe right now.

The jumper I’m wearing here I grabbed as an unplanned purchase in H&M when I went shopping with my sister a few weeks ago as a new autumn piece. I’m always drawn to burnt oranges, burgundies and mustard yellows, but I try to save my wearing of them mostly for autumn and winter. I also bought the choker necklace from Urban Outfitters on the same day and I’ve found myself wearing it a lot recently. I’ve never really been a fan of 90s fashion – I was a bit too young for it at the time and it coming back into fashion again in the past few years has made me pull faces and despair a little bit. But then again, here I am taking influences from it with choker necklaces again!

I managed to wear this outfit back before it got too chilly for bare legs (although last week we ended up with some crazy and unseasonably warm weather while we were in the south of the UK!) but when it just about allowed to wear autumnal colours without looking too weird – a good mix in my eyes, although I am quite glad to have the option to be able to wear tights and jeans again without being too warm. I’ll take the weather at this time of year any day – slightly chilly but with lots of bright blue sky and sunny days. Although I wasn’t so keen on the frozen windscreen the other morning though…

I really want to talk more about our trip but feel I should save that for the posts – I’ve got some really exciting stories to tell, including the night before my birthday at Rick Stein’s plus our stay in the Shepherd’s Hut, but it can wait!
It’s all been busy busy since getting back though – straight back into work with a new month and taking on some exciting new client work and starting to get into and launch some Christmas projects (eek, already?!). I’ve also got my girlguiding First Aid training coming up, Ben’s birthday, a couple of theatre trips and some plans with friends. Back to normal life!

  1. Oh I love this jumper, the colour is gorgeous and perfect for this time of year. It goes so well with the skirt too. I’m trying to take as much time as I can before I pile on the layers and need ot bring my coat out of the cupboard as well, it’s still been fairly sunny here which has helped. I’m excited to hear more about your road trip too! – Tasha
