In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto – Romance Book Review
A cute and steamy romance that blew me away!

Quincy is a weather influencer with a huge following thanks to her excellent personality but also her experience and knowledge in the niche. When an opportunity to take her career further appears, she grabs it with both hands, only to find herself up against her long term rival – her best friend’s brother and famous beloved TV weatherman. He’s back home for the hurricane season, and they keep turning up on the same storm chases and interview rooms. Can they work it out between them, or will they be destined to always fight it out?
I enjoyed the first half of the book, but really could only see myself rating it 4 stars – despite my little grab line up there about it blowing me away, at first, it wasn’t really doing that (and pardon the pun, but I had to throw it in there!). It was only later on when I’d fully connected with the characters that a switch flipped and I realised I was loving the story and the romance. One thing that’s really stuck with me about their relationship with the ongoing “truth or dare” game they played – it was a fun little quirk between the characters that really gave them life and added to the story throughout (especially towards the end!).
In the summary I read, the book was compared to Ali Hazelwood and B. K. Borison’s works, which was obviously a big draw for me to pick it up as I think they’re probably in my top 3 contemporary romance authors right now. I can definitely see the parallels, with a woman working in STEM and smashing it, and with the TV angle similar to Borison’s recent books. It did still hold its own place with its own voice though and absolutely wasn’t a carbon copy of these stories.
I love a book where the characters have a hidden depth beyond the relationship – sometimes it’s a passion for cave diving, sometimes it’s solving murders on the side, others it’s been gaming. In this book, that extra dimension was weather. To those of us for whom weather is just, you know, rainy days and sunshiney days, that doesn’t sound all that fun. But these two had such a passion for it for that it was infectious. I love when a simple book can flip my opinion on something that I didn’t really care about before and make me see it through their eyes.
There were some brilliantly fulfilled tropes in here with enemies to lovers, forced proximity, nicknames, and workplace rivalry. There were excellent moments of high adrenalin and tension with the big storms that worked very well and had me on the edge of my seat.
I love a good location setting and Florida was the perfect one for this. As someone who’s spent a lot of time in the state, albeit not during a hurricane (immediately after one a couple of times though), it was well written and very strong. You could feel the oppressive nature of the weather and the storms – and it was nice to have a character who actually liked the crazy summer weather in Florida rather than complained about it!
The rest of the friendship group was great. There was such great banter between them, particularly the boys. It felt so realistic. It sounds like we’re going to get more stories from them which I’m looking forward to!
