Duffle and Tartan

Snow - duffle coat, tartan skirt, wellies
Snow - red English postbox
At the start of the week, Ben and I got stuck at home because of all the snow that’s hit the UK recently! Most places around the UK didn’t get snow until the end of last week, but if you remember back to my last post, we had snow over a week before that! It started snowing nearly 2 weeks ago here and has not disappeared since then, including the 8 inches or so that we had on Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately I’m still at home due to further gallbladder complications – that little infection I had in one of the stitches got in even deeper, so I’m now on some super strong antibiotics. I wasn’t told to take time off work (it seems that they assumed I was already off because I was so ill), so I set off to work yesterday in a lot of pain. While I was driving down the motorway, a lorry (truck!) pulled out in front of me, causing me to jump on my brakes (not good in this weather anyway), so that the seatbelt cut right into the infection. I had to pull off the motorway, then spent an hour sat there crying down the phone to various parents, doctors and Ben before I managed to set off in a homewards direction. The doctor has told me I shouldn’t have been trying to drive or work because I’m just making it worse and worse, so I’m now signed off again until Monday. It’s very stressful missing all this though because I know I’ll have more to do when I get back – in my first week back after I missed a lot before I taught 7 extra hours and spent a whole extra day at work (so much for being part time!).

But anyway, on to the pictures! Ben and I, since we unintentionally had a day off together, decided we would go for a walk in the snow. Admittedly we didn’t get far because I got really tired, but it was still nice! These are some shots from around our village, including the church and a postbox (very British!).  This isn’t the most exciting outfit, because I’m all wrapped up in warmth, but I like it anyway. I’ve been wearing this tartan skirt far too much on the days I’m not at school – it’s definitely my favourite winter item! And the tights are new – they’re fleece lined tights, amazing!! They’re so warm and cozy and only a few pounds from Tesco. With my old duffle coat thrown on top, a circle scarf and some new leather gloves that my grandma gave me for Christmas, I managed to stay quite warm! Only problem was that I left my woolly hat at home, but at least I had my hood. I ended up having to plait my hair to keep it out the way though. I’m getting fed up of my hair now! The ends are all damaged and it’s too long, but I’m so reluctant to cut it off when it’s taken so long to grow!! But when I do I’m thinking of going about shoulder length, what do you think? Any suggestions?
I’ve been baking today – a pretty much completely made up recipe for chocolateless chocolate brownies! Makes sense, I promise! So if it works, I may post the recipe for that. I still have all the pictures of my Year in Outfits to post, but I may save those for my blog birthday now, plus all my pictures from my holiday in September!!

I disappeared over the weekend again…sorry!! But I had a bit of a disaster on Thursday evening that made me want a little break…we had someone break into our flat while we were in…we were actually in the next room. Fortunately (or unfortunately, not sure?!) we didn’t hear them, otherwise I would have been utterly…

Can anyone resist sparkles, really?! I know I can’t! Whenever I walk into a shop around Christmas time, I tend to veer straight towards sequined and bejewelled items, no matter how tacky they look and how awful the item under all the sparkle might be! But this dress is another matter altogether. It’s another dress…
