Blogger Book Club Review: Death Comes To Pemberley
Some of you might remember I set up the Blogger Book Club recently, and we’ve just completed out first month!! We were 3 small groups, but one group had a problem with someone dropping out and a book going missing, so unfortunately that group has had to close, but hopefully the other two groups will continue running successfully!!
So today I’m giving you my review of Death Comes To Pemberley by P. D. James. Those of you who know Pride and Prejudice have probably immediately spotted the ‘Pemberley’ and realise that there will be some connection between the two books! This takes place several years after the ending of Pride and Prejudice and, as the prologue explains to us, Elizabeth and Darcy are now married with children, as are Jane and Bingley, living at their respective homes not too far apart. It is clear from the title that it involves some sort of tragedy, and I think it’s no spoiler to tell that that it is a sort of murder mystery, the death taking place the night before a ball is to happen at Pemberley.
There are several original characters in the book, and a few new ones. Most of them ring true, although I wasn’t completely taken in by Elizabeth; Lydia was particularly well characterized however! The book itself I found very interesting. It’s always nice to find out in a sequel what happens to your beloved characters after the original, and I was excited to read that bit, but afterwards I wasn’t as completely enthralled. I definitely wanted to find out what had really happened, who was involved in the murder and who may or may not be convicted for it, but the story itself was a little slow moving for my taste. I enjoyed the interesting twist that happens towards the end, and I was pleased with the ending. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it’s not one I would pick up and read again.

@Voguerella – we all sent our favorite book to the next person on the list. In a month, we send the book we’ve received on. In 5 months, we’ll have received our original book back! It’s a great way to discover some great authors, for sure. 🙂
