Film Inspiration #2 and No Make Up Monday #2

I had an awesome amount of feedback on my last film inspiration post, and as I said, I’ve recently been getting a lot of inspiration from films, so now that I’ve collected up some pictures from them I’ve decided to make it a little series. I’ve also sort of tried to base my outfit (and the photos) on the film a bit too! I did do this the other day too but didn’t get a chance to take photos, so I’ll redo that film another day =)

So the film I’ve picked today is one from my childhood – The Secret Garden. My sister and I used to watch this over and over. I feel very drawn to this film – I think it’s because the setting of it is very familiar to me. Misselthwaite Manor, the house where Mary is sent, is set in Yorkshire, where I live. The bleak landscapes outside the garden are the landscapes I played on as a child. I’m not sure whether it’s set in the Yorkshire Dales or the North Yorkshire Moors (where I live), but they are very similar and I love them. The house is also so beautiful – there’s something about its isolation which I love, and of course the beautiful gardens. The Secret Garden itself reminds me of my Grandma who had a secret garden behind a locked door with a little window in it, and she kept little garden ornaments in there which she used to move around and I thought they moved themselves! So it’s pretty hard to do an outfit inspired by something set in the early 1900s, but I’ve been wanting to wear this new skirt I got in Primark a couple of weeks ago for a while now and I thought it fitted quite well with my theme – the colour, length…I’m not sure, but I like it anyway! And I got Ben to take these photos for me amongst the daffodils at the bottom of my garden (yes, I’m home from uni for Easter holidays!) to help with my secret garden theme. And the bow, just because I like bows, and I don’t know, it’s little girly!

Anyway, about the skirt, I bought this on my little impromptu shopping trip a couple of weeks ago where I didn’t mean to buy anything but I did haha. I really like it though! I have been a bit wary of maxi skirts on me up until now, but I love this one! The fabric is so soft, and it’s pleated, and just lovely! And it was only £6 if I remember right (either that or £9), but either way it’s under £10!
Oh and on a final note, this is my second No Make Up Monday, although again you can’t really tell! I almost put some on today but thought, no!

  11. I think that maxi skirt looks great on you. The hair bow is super cute, but it’s not something I’d ever be able to pull off. Lucky you that it looks so good!
