More Photoshoot + Film Inspiration: Virgin Suicides

TVS_236

So you’ve probably all seen the previous photos from my and Beth’s photoshoot we did the other week, I would link to them, but again because they are all scheduled posts, I don’t think I can do so, so if you want to see them, look for the Alice photoshoots in my archives!
These are again from the same day, and taken in the same place as the photos in the second Alice post, in the woods at Keldy. For these photos we took a little inspiration from a film, The Virgin Suicides. It was originally a book written by Jeffrey Eugenides, made into a film in 1999. It’s really good, if a little strange and depressing, but has a very interesting dreamy sort of atmosphere to it. For these photos we took inspiration from the character of Cecilia, who is the first of the sisters to kill herself. Of course there is this fairly famous image of her from the film:

Well I kind of wanted to do that, unfortunately we didn’t see any appropriate trees to climb, plus I didn’t want to ruin my clothes in doing so because it was sort of raining while we did the photos. So we just found a sort of darker, creepier bit of the woods to do it.

The outfit is actually made up of an H&M lace dress and a New Look lace tutu skirt. In the book and film, Cecilia is known for wearing a thrifted wedding dress that she has cut off short as below:

But I think the outfit we came up with represents it pretty well, especially the bare feet as it shows the youth of the character, as she is the youngest of the sisters, even though she acts much more world-wise:

Doctor: What are you doing here, honey? You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets.
Cecilia: Obviously, Doctor, you’ve never been a 13-year-old girl.
