I’ve decided I’m going to start publishing some of my book reviews “properly” on the blog – as in, full blog posts for reviews, particularly for ARCs on their publish dates. I’m currently reading about half ARCs and half books from my TBR, I feel like it would be helpful to the publishers and authors who have granted me copies of their books before they launch so that I can read them in advance, especially if I shout about them on their release days!

So today you’ll have two book reviews from me (I know, this means I need to be very organised in advance for some book reviews!), from two very different genres. The one coming later today is a high fantasy, surrealist masterpiece, and the review you’re about to read below is a light, grumpy small town romance – what can I say, my taste in books is all over the place, and I believe every piece of writing should be given a chance!

Let’s dive in with this one first: CEO Not Welcome by Mandy Sawchuk, which got a hearty 4/5 stars from me on Goodreads, which equals out to a solid 7/10 for a blog review – I’ve never liked marks out of 5, they just don’t fit well enough!
This was a solid insta-love romance for me – I loved the grumpy vibes going both directions between a big company CEO and woman who runs the lodge in a rural small town.

Chloe’s life revolves around keeping the lodge afloat, and standing up for what she and her town believe in – protecting the beautiful natural area they live in. When Brody comes crashing into town with big plans to overhaul the lodge, you just know they’re going to butt heads, but of course, there’s also that simmering tension – which admittedly doesn’t simmer for long!
This book dives straight in to the spice headfirst! You normally expect things to kick off around the 50-60% mark (often 66% exactly, I’ve noticed!), but this one was barely a quarter way through. I usually love a slow burn, but I enjoyed the “no messing around” in this one. The characters were fun and sassy.

There is an ongoing backstory of saving the town, plus good side characters who help to build out the picture. This isn’t exactly a complicated premise for a book, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It was a quick read, an excellent palate cleanser type of book, and very easy to get along with.

Thank you to the author and publishers for an ARC of this book.
